What is OEKO-TEX®? (Briefly) OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is an international certification system based in Germany and Austria that controls whether textile products contain substances harmful to human health. This certification is particularly important in the furniture industry for sofa fabrics, headboards, seating groups, and hotel and villa upholstery. Markets such as EU countries, Scandinavia, Switzerland, and Japan in particular require OEKO-TEX® certification for furniture fabrics. This certification proves that the fabric is clean not only of color but also of dyes, chemical content, and substances such as heavy metals, formaldehyde, and azo dyes.   How to Reach an OEKO-TEX® Certified Fabric Supplier in Turkey? You can reach these suppliers using the following methods, without using the website, through fieldwork and direct communication.  1. Ask Exporting Furniture Manufacturers: Turkish furniture manufacturers exporting to the EU, especially if they sell to Scandinavia, Germany, or the Netherlands, are almost certainly using OEKO-TEX® certified fabric. Go to a furniture factory in Bursa, Istanbul (Tuzla), or Kocaeli: "You manufacture for the EU market, right? Where do you get your upholstery fabrics? Are they OEKO-TEX® certified?" This manufacturer can give you the name and even the phone number of the supplier directly. Tour the Textile Industrial Zones Companies producing OEKO-TEX® certified fabric are generally concentrated in large textile centers.  Kayseri (Organized Industrial Zone) One of Turkey's largest home textile production centers. Go door to door: "Do you produce upholstery fabric? Is it OEKO-TEX® certified? Do you export?"  Denizli (Pamukkale OSB) High-quality cast (sofa) fabric is produced. Ask manufacturers: "Do you produce fabric for furniture? Is it certified? Can I get a sample?"  Gaziantep and Adana Here, especially polyester-based upholstery fabric (PVC-free, eco-friendly) is produced. Ask the supplier: "Do you have OEKO-TEX® certified fabric? Can you show the report?"  3. Meet at Export FairsIstanbul Textile Fair (Istanbul Textile Sourcing) Hometex Eurasia (Home Textile Fair) IFAT Furniture Fair (furniture + textile together) At these fairs: There are fabric manufacturers at their stands with "OEKO-TEX® certified", "Eco-Friendly", "For Furniture" marked. Speak directly: "Are these fabrics for furniture? What is the certificate number? Do you ship to the EU?" They can give you both a sample and a certificate.   4. Ask Customs Brokers and Logistics Companies Customs brokers request the fabric's certificate when preparing export documents. Ask your customs broker: "Do you know any OEKO-TEX® certified fabric suppliers used by furniture exporters?" You can also establish a connection by asking logistics companies: "Which textile companies send fabric to the EU?"   5. Apply to Chemical and Dye SuppliersTo obtain OEKO-TEX® certification, the manufacturer must supply not only the fabric but also the dyes and finishing chemicals that are certified. Go to companies selling textile chemicals in Kayseri, Denizli, and Istanbul: "You sell OEKO-TEX®-compliant dyes and chemicals, right? Which fabric manufacturers buy them?" These suppliers know which fabric companies have certified production.  6. Apply to Certification Bodies (TÜV, SGS, Intertek)OEKO-TEX® certification is issued through the following organizations in Turkey: TÜV Rheinland SGS Intertek Control Union Go to the offices of these organizations (Istanbul, Bursa, Denizli): Ask, "Who are the furniture fabric manufacturers that have received OEKO-TEX® certification? How can I contact them?" Even if they don't give you a list of manufacturers directly, they can probably give you directions.  7. Talk to Architectural Design Offices and Decorators: Interior design offices that handle boutique hotels and luxury villa projects in Turkey: They design according to EU standards and require OEKO-TEX® certified materials. Ask them, "Where do you source furniture fabric? Is it certified?" This way, you can reach suppliers.   How to Tell If It's Really Certified? When you visit the supplier, ask for the following: OEKO-TEX® certification document (original or copy) Fabric sample (may have the OEKO-TEX® label printed on it) Batch number and area of use (Standard 100 Class II – adult clothing/upholstery) If they show these documents and they export, you can work with them with confidence.  Conclusion: To find an OEKO-TEX® certified fabric supplier for furniture exports in Turkey: Ask exporting furniture manufacturers. Visit textile centers such as Kayseri, Denizli, and Gaziantep. Attend textile fairs. Get references from customs brokers, logistics companies, and chemical suppliers. Apply to certification bodies.
