UAE Driver Assistance Systems: ADAS and Autonomous Driving Solutions The United Arab Emirates (UAE) aims to become a leading player in the Middle East in smart transportation and autonomous driving technologies through visionary projects such as “We the UAE 2031” and the “Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy.” Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving solutions, in particular, play a critical role in transforming the UAE’s transportation infrastructure.   What is ADAS and Its Role in the UAE ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) are semi-autonomous technologies that assist the driver and aim to prevent accidents. These are: Automatic emergency braking (AEB) Lane keeping and warning systems Adaptive cruise control (ACC) Parking assists Traffic sign recognition Night vision and pedestrian detection systems 🇦🇪 ADAS Deployment in the UAE As of 2023, 85% of new vehicles sold in the UAE have at least Level 1-2 ADAS systems. Traffic management authorities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi provide tax reductions and insurance benefits to vehicles with ADAS. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) uses ADAS data in traffic flow and accident analyses.   Autonomous Driving Strategy: Led by Dubai The UAE, and Dubai in particular, aims to make 25% of all transportation autonomous by 2030. Autonomous Taxi Fleet (Robotaxi) Pilot projects continue with Cruise, AutoX, Waymo and Chinese Pony.ai. Public autonomous taxi service will launch in Dubai Design District (d3) and Downtown Dubai at the end of 2024. The vehicles have Level 4 autonomous driving capability. 2. Autonomous Metro and Minibuses RTA is testing autonomous electric minibuses in collaboration with EasyMile and Navya. Public shuttles between Dubai Silicon Oasis and the Expo 2020 area will expand in 2025. 3. Autonomous Cargo and LogisticsAutonomous trucks and forklifts are in the testing phase in Dubai South and Jebel Ali Port. Joint R&D projects are carried out with automotive giants.  Local Production: “UAEV” Brand The UAE’s domestic electric and autonomous vehicle brand “UAEV” will enter mass production in 2026. Its first model, “UAEV One,” comes with Level 3 autonomous driving and full ADAS integration.   Infrastructure and Integration The UAE is investing in critical infrastructure for the safe operation of autonomous vehicles: 5G and V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything): Full coverage in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Smart Traffic Lights: Prioritize autonomous vehicles with real-time data sharing. Cloud-Based Traffic Management System (Smart Dubai Platform): All vehicle data is analyzed centrally.   International CollaborationsTesla Optimus & FSD: Beta tests continue in Dubai. BMW & Mercedes: Localizing ADAS software in the UAE.
